Newly Endorsed Items

The following items of business were endorsed by DSA Austin at our Monthly Meeting on April 21, 2016.

Endorsement of the Disability Integration Act (SB 2427). Danny Saenz, DSA Austin and ADAPT member, explained how this bill will further protect people with disabilities and strengthen their power and ability to live in community-based settings. DSA members who are part of other human rights groups are encouraged to discuss and support this bill in those other groups.

Endorsement of voting “NO” on the May 7th vote for Proposition 1. This proposition is regarding ride-sharing companies, e.g. Uber and Lyft. It would repeal safety measures, such as the fingerprinting of drivers and the requirement of the company’s emblem to be displayed. Many Austin leaders and fixtures in the Austin community support the vote of “NO” against Prop. 1: The Austin Chronicle, Austin Neighborhoods Council, Austin Police Association, Austin Firefighters Association, Austin Women’s Political Caucus, former City Council Member Laura Morrison, former state Sen. Gonzalo Barrientos, Austin Police Association President Ken Casaday, former Austin Independent School District board President Gina Hinojosa, Travis County Democratic Party Chair Vincent Harding and Austin Sierra Club’s Roy Waley.
